Columbus Science Pub Presents: Math Without Numbers: Knot Theories with Dr. Jim Fowler
May 01, 2025 07:30p.m.
$5.00
There’s a common (mis)conception that mathematics is primarily about numbers. However, mathematicians also explore geometric objects, like knotted curves in space. Since algebra is itself a powerful tool, we’ll discover how algebra can help us better understand geometric structures such as knots.
Jim Fowler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University, where he also serves as Vice Chair for Undergraduate Studies. His research focuses on geometry and topology, and his math outreach efforts include educational technology and summer math programs for high school students.
