Columbus Science Pub Presents: The Science of Sesame Street: What Kids Learn, and What They Don’t

Children’s educational TV is full of catchy songs, colorful characters, and big ideas—but sometimes the way lessons are represented can confuse more than clarify. In this talk, Dr. James Alexander Bonus explores how kids interpret science lessons on TV, why parents sometimes learn more than their children, and how co-viewing can turn screen time into a powerful learning opportunity.
Dr. Bonus is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication at The Ohio State University. His research explores how screen media—especially educational television—shapes children’s understanding of science and the world around them.
Food and drink will be available from the kitchen at Shadowbox Live! Use the code “getnerdy” to skip the $5 suggested donation.
